Delivering Wound Care Services to Xylazine-Afflicted Residents of Kensington Area in Philadelphia

Renowned for its leadership in wound care education and services, Nancy Morgan Wound Care is excited to announce a collaboration with Savage Sisters aimed at delivering crucial wound care services to the Xylazine-afflicted residents of the Kensington area in Philadelphia.

Xylazine, primarily known as an animal sedative, has recently made its presence felt in the illicit drug sphere of Philadelphia after being commonly found in Puerto Rico’s opioid market. Its associated health risks, distribution patterns, and prevalence remain under-researched, with Kensington emerging as the so-called “Xylazine capital of the USA.”

This partnership seeks to cater to the community’s specific healthcare challenges, especially chronic wounds arising from drug use. The inaugural event, slated for October 11, 2023, promises accessible wound care within the Kensington district. This will encompass special services, including wound evaluations, treatments, educational programs, and broader community engagement efforts.

A team of skilled and compassionate healthcare professionals from Philadelphia will be available to offer their services.

“We are thrilled to join forces with the Savage Sisters to extend our wound care services to drug users of the Kensington area,” said Nancy Morgan, President of Nancy Morgan Wound Care. “This collaboration reflects our commitment to positively impacting underserved communities and addressing their unique healthcare challenges. Together, we aim to improve the health and well-being of residents in Kensington by offering comprehensive wound care services and support.”

The event is designed as a platform for the Kensington community to access critical wound care resources in a nurturing and supportive setting.

Why this initiative is critical:

  • Public Health: Addressing wound care and safer injection practices reduces infection spread amongst users and the larger community.
  • Humanitarian Perspective: Everyone deserves quality healthcare. Assisting with wound management symbolizes respect and recognition of every individual’s dignity.
  • Reduced Healthcare Strain: Effective wound care and prevention initiatives can alleviate the burden on healthcare systems by avoiding preventable complications, saving both lives and resources.
  • Pathway to Recovery: Addressing the physical health needs of xylazine users can serve as a gateway to engaging them in comprehensive addiction treatment and recovery programs.
  • Community Safety: Proactively aiding Xylazine users with their wounds results in a safer community environment.

Addressing the wounds of Xylazine users is ethically imperative and a strategic public health move. We invite healthcare professionals, community bodies, and policy influencers to work in unison, furnishing essential support for those impacted by Xylazine. Collectively, we can make a positive change in individuals’ lives and communities.
